Recycle your Food Waste On-site with Ridan

Large Ridan composter for catering food wasteRecycling your food waste and garden waste on site is now a practical, viable solution. Reduce mess, reduce smells and reduce costs in an environmentally friendly way that benefits you, your residents, visitors and the environment.

The Ridan Composting system has already been installed in places such as residential homes, National Trust properties, large estates and country house hotels, each enjoying their own benefits. Most enjoy the clean and hygienic way the food waste is disposed of and most are also happy that they are reducing their carbon footprint and adding to their green credentials, but some have significantly reduced their food waste disposal costs. For houses open to the public, the Ridan has become an added attraction to visitors!

The Ridan Composting system requires no power so can be located anywhere (with a flat surface). This could be anywhere on your grounds, housed inside a shed or garage, or some have even put them on flat roofs!

Ridan Composter Nunnington Hall

It is the highlight of our ‘Clever Composting’ talks and always sparks intrigue from our visitors.

This is what gardener Cailean Iain Stewart from the National Trust’s Nunnignton Hall had to say about their Ridan.

“At Nunnington Hall we have been utilising the Ridan composter for about 4 years with great success. It is an efficient and reliable tumbler and has no problem coping with large amounts of kitchen waste. The finished product is very versatile; it makes an excellent pre-composter and helps as an accelerator in our home-made compost bays. It is also well beyond the interest of small mammals as well as being a sealed unit raised at height. It is the highlight of our ‘Clever Composting’ talks and always sparks intrigue from our visitors.”

What can you compost?

  • Dairy, cheese, butter, eggs.
  • Fruit and Veg (including skins)
  • Meat & Fish (raw and cooked)
  • Bread
  • Salads
  • Pasta, Rice
  • Oils and fats
  • Plate scrapings, anything edible.
  • Grass cuttings
  • Garden waste

All raw and cooked food waste can be composted in a Ridan. Fruit, veg, greens and prep compost most easily, however starches, meats and dough take longer to digest, much like our own digestive systems, so a mixture of both types of foods is essential.

Dead leaves, straw, paper, cardboard and tissue can be composted by layering them into the Maturation Box, between the compost as it is loaded, this works better than adding them to the Ridan. For more information go to: How the Ridan Composter works

Which Ridan is right for your home or estate?

We offer a range of three Ridan Food Waste Composting Machines, to accommodate different needs. The best way to decide which size of Ridan you need is to measure how many litres of food waste your business produces each week. Here is a guide:

Some clients have purchased two or more Ridan Composting systems to cater for larger numbers. Of course, please remember that other factors need to be considered too, such as:

  • How efficient are the catering kitchens?
  • How much fresh produce is prepared on site compared to how much is bought in?
  • What sort of foods are being thrown away? Vegetable matter, fruit and greens compost easily and quickly, but meat eggs and dairy take longer.
